It's All Happening With Labels

I should have done it awhile ago, but I've finally added labels to my posts. On the sidebar you can search by label (category), in addition to searching the archives. I've added labels to my 2009 posts and will update 2008 and 2007 eventually.

Let's be honest, I need a little feedback

I'm coming round the bend of three months of daily blogging and it turns out I need some feedback. And by feedback, I mean validation. And by validation, I mean do you like what I've been saying and doing here?

Since there aren't too many people who comment on the blog (which is totally, 100% fine), and I don't live within physical hi, how you doing? distance of many of my nearest and dearest, I really have no sense for what anyone thinks about what I've been posting. While I so appreciate it when I see you lovely people in person, I'd like to know what is and isn't working.

Let's call it market research. Please give me a shout in any way you know how to find moi. Constructive criticism is always welcome (hello, I took many a writing course in college and I write for a living, critique is not a four letter word for me). If I sent this link to you or you got here from facebook, its cause I want you to know about it. So don't be afraid my readers.

Connected, yet unconnected

Connected, yet unconnected. I love all of my ways to keep in touch, but it takes awhile to get everything plugged back in after being away for a few days. Which in turn makes me wish there was an easier way to keep all of this stuff connected. Lemme break it down:

I have two personal e-mail accounts, plus a work e-mail. My work firewall prevents me from checking my personal e-mail account and I haven't set up home access to my work e-mail because its too tempting not to check work e-mail when I'm home. So I effectively have daytime and nighttime e-mail. I'd like to keep all personal e-mail to my nighttime account, but alas its just doesn't work that way.

Then I have two blogs, plus facebook, linkedin and shelfari accounts. This blog feeds into my facebook account, which is about right in terms of what I want to do with each of them (connect with friends and family). Linkedin can stand on its own for all I care, I don't think work colleagues care too much about lip gloss or bargain shoe shopping. My shelfari public shelf is also on this blog and my facebook account, which is nice. But when I write about a book on my blog, I feel obligated to make sure my shelfari is updated. If I write a facebook status about a book, I'd want to make sure I was posting it on here since I obviously feel strongly about sharing my thoughts.

Its not really that big of a deal, but it does become a bit of a cluster when you begin using different modes of communication with the same person. Like I have found myself having the same conversation with someone on facebook mail and regular e-mail. Simultaneously.

Its not the maintenance of the blogs, shelfari and facebook, its that they are all communicating different things at the same time. So don't even get me started on Twitter. I'm not going there.

Blogging

I've been neglecting this blog lately for a couple of reasons, mainly:

1) I'm quite busy with work, travel, football, etc
2) I just joined Facebook, which requires careful study and devotion:)
3) We haven't been doing many house projects lately
4) I've been more apt to post on the cooking blog

I know you are reading the blog (because many people mention it to me when I see them in person), but I'd like to hear what you guys are interested in. Will you take this survey so I can get a sense of what you want to hear and see? It will allow me to tailor and focus this blog.

I saw this post on Apartment Therapy about managing and tracking your junk mail. By giving yourself a title or changing something about how you name is spelled on magazine subscriptions, you can track which company has sold that variation of your "name" to catalogues etc. Then you call them and ask them to stop selling your name. Good idea and loads of fun.

With my name change, I have gotten a lot of variations on my maiden name and married last name because I kept my maiden name as a second middle name. I have a sneaking suspicion it may be my bank who is responsible for all the stuff I get addressed to Carroll Rider!

And she loses it. I lost my camera over the holidays, though I secretly believe it will be found under a couch or in my luggage. Boo. I'll soldier on (I just saw a price cut on the same camera I lost at Target). And so I post.
